Fifty-three years ago Jim and I began our journey together. So young, so naive, so in love. We really didn’t know each other very well but I knew when he kissed me…it was magic.
We were married in a small community church on a hot, sticky, rainy afternoon. The church ladies held a lovely coffee and cake reception for us. Then family and close friends went to my family home on Orchard Avenue for a dinner reception.
We were so anxious to get out on our own and on our way. By six we said our goodbyes and headed down the road of life in our ’59 Plymouth Belvidere (a white hardtop). We had the Bridal Suite at the Moraine on the Lake Hotel, a luxurious North Shore spot. (North of Chicago that is and no longer there.) By ten we were ordering pizza!
We spent our honeymoon on a lake in Ladysmith, WI where the other vacationing families teased the newlyweds 🙂 We began to spin the threads that tie us together… the morning coffee, the shared songs, book discussions, snacks with champagne.
The same threads are still there along with many more that are the fabric of our life together. And the magic is still there.
Happy Anniversary Jim and Joan
