A Special Day

Yesterday was my special day...my umptieth birthday! We celebrated by heading for the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, CA. It was an 85 mile trip taking 2 hours through the heart of LA. But the weather was beautiful and we arrived with plenty of time to explore the library. Here we are at the doorway of Air Force One giving "the wave."

This plane flew seven Presidents around the world. It was the backup plane through part of Clinton's term. As always I am in awe when we are in these very personal spots of famous people. Highlights of the tour for me were his gravesite, the personal daily diaries, the section of the Berlin Wall, the replica of the Oval Office and Air Force One. You can see more pictures on My Picasa Albums.

It's very interesting to follow the life of a very ordinary man and see how chance happenings open doors and lead to new forks in the road, new possibilities and decisions to be made. From a baby born in an apartment over a storefront in Illinois to President. What a journey!

We came home to finish off my celebration with a bottle of champagne to which we added some Hagen Daz ice cream bars and a movie! A very unhealthful dinner but satisfying and fun. Phone calls, messages, and cards from family and friends topped off a very special day.
