Time Out

I'm in a brief writing "time out" while I have the flu. After a week of nasty coughing I went to the walk-in and the doc says I "have what's going around" which is the flu. I thought I was into bronchitis. So I'm resting, reading, drinking juice and coughing. Sooner or later it will get better.

Warm Weather and Little Visitor

Boy Oh Boy! Are we ever enjoying the warmer weather. Shorts, sitting outside with a beer! Wonderful! This good weather came just in time for us to have a little visitor. Naomi called and needed emergency baby-sitting because Evan had a runny nose and watery eyes. Day care said he had pink eye and could not stay. So Evan came to visit on Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. It is now Monday morning and I'm still recovering. I'm not kidding!

This little 2 year old never stopped moving until he was so exhausted he had a little temper tantrum and fell asleep in my lap. Imagine...in a motorhome with no toys, just all the gadgets of the coach. He found a key in the "junk box", climbed up in the driver's seat and tried to put the key in the ignition. Course I was watching all this and laughing so I stopped him in time.

Outside he wanted to go for walks, play in the rocky ground cover and then, of course, throw the rocks. Well that had to stop. Grandpa went to Target and bought him a little soft bat and ball. We all tried pitching and batting and chasing the ball.

Evan was batting, I was pitching and he hit the ball about 30'.. smack dab under the 5er next to us! Yikes! How do we get the ball out? Well the only thing that could get under there was the little guy :) So he bent down, walked under the coach like a soldier on maneuvers, got the ball and came back out with me all the time saying, "Watch your head!"

We spent an hour at the park playing on the playground toys and he ran so much that he volunteered to leave, he was so pooped. We watched a few segments of "SpongeBob SquarePants" and a penguin movie called "Cody". That was relaxing for both of us:)

Even though he kept us on the run we had such a great time seeing him in action, watching him figure things out and communicating with him. He kept wanting to go in the street or see the neighbors so we had to firmly say, "Evan, stop! Come back here!" At one point he turned, looked at us firmly, pointed a finger and said, "Listen mister, You're in time out!" Now how could we keep a straight face?

Great Birthday

We arrived at son Jim's house about 2 pm and after awhile Renee, Tom and their family arrived. We hugged and chatted and then Jim says, "Now for the big surprise!" He plays some fanfare music and grandson Jim makes a grand leaping entrance from the hallway! What a surprise! I could not stop laughing at his entrance and the fact that he drove 4.5 hours to get to the party and then would be driving back for class on Monday. Now that is a devoted grandson. Thanks so much for being there Jim.

Here's the birthday girls being sung to by the family chorus (and we sounded pretty good)!

You'll notice Evan in the background looking a bit crabby. He didn't get a nap so he had a few bad moments. But he did enjoy "playing" the piano with Uncle Zack. He was really into the emotion of playing...copying what Zack was doing.

Son Jim set out wonderful party food including huge platters of sushi which turned out to be the entree. The "fiesta" cake was yummy lemon with fruity whipped cream filling. Tom brought homemade ice cream to complete the celebration.

We did have the Super Bowl going in the background and enjoyed the surprise ending. Usually the games are yawners in my opinion :)

I enjoyed talking with the college kids about what they are studying. Some of them are on fairly certain paths. Others are exploring. Currently the kids are into photography, computer science, teaching, firefighting, and anthropology as major interests. Here's the three college boys discussing ???? who knows what. But they look pretty serious :) L to R thats Ryan, Bryan and Jim.

The party broke up about 9 pm and I went home with flowers, gifts and lots of family love. Thanks to all for making it such a special day.

Just Livin'

We got to see "baby" Evan in his native environment. Now that is a different experience. Where did that quiet, sweet, baby go? He's turned into a mischievious two year old! He wants what he wants :) Here's Grandpa trying to keep ahold of the giggling boy!

Our Mediterranean dinner with the kids at Rosine's in Corona was delicious. We ate more appetizers--hummus, sarma, pita, and other yummy items-- than entree's and then had room for baklava dessert. The service was great and since the kids treated us it was a wonderful evening! Thanks, guys.

We've actually gotten quite a bit done this week. Scanned some slides, worked on the rain leak, had some electrical work done...all here at our site. We have to wait for the next rain to see if we're fixed. We are hopeful! I've read some RV bloggers who've spent months trying to figure where the leak is coming from. It's a headache but not major.

This is my birthday weekend coming up. So once again granddaughter Mary and I will celebrate our birthdays on Super Bowl Sunday. Son Jim does a bang up job of hosting a party with all kinds of good eats. I put in my request for sushi appetizers. So If I have 20 year old grandkids and a great grandson I must be how old? Yikes. I don't feel that old :)
