After the Storm

After two full days of constant rain...a beautiful day and a lovely SoCal sunset!

I was getting cabin fever after all the rain so it was great to open doors and windows and take a walk. We also got a few things well on the way to being fixed. Jim continued to trouble shoot the slide out problem using a guide from HWH. Looks like he zeroed in on the problem...a defective switch on the dash. He confirmed his thoughts with the tech on the phone and then ordered a new switch. So that should get resolved next week when the switch arrives.

We've had problems with our gas water heater for several months and had a repair guy look at it twice in Illinois. He and Jim decided the problem was the control board but it seemed impossible to access. Rexhall said that a side panel of the coach must be removed to get at the board. What!?

So the repair guy who was scheduled to come this afternoon didn't need to work on the slide problem but Jim asked him to tackle the water heater. We were immediately impressed because he listened to our description of the problem then said he thought the control board might have slipped loose and be laying loose on the floor of the compartment. But you can't see in the side of the compartment unless the panel over the wheel comes off. Yikes!

But this repair guy knew just what to do! Take out some screws, apply some brute force to loosen the sticky stuff and voila! The panel swings up on a hinge and the water heater compartment is fully revealed...with the loose control board on the floor! :)

He pulled the board out (a completely unprotected PCB board) and we tested it, turning the heater off and on. When he wiggled the board the heater responded :) He put on a field test board and the heater lit immediately. So a new board is on order and will be installed tomorrow. And we learned a bit more about how the coach is put together.

But another problem is not resolved. We still have a water leak at the floor where the slide butts against the frame. We had it repaired last year at the factory but it didn't last. So looks like we'll have to go back to windy Lancaster this spring for another try at that. Maybe we'll get some other cosmetic work done because Rexhall really knows how to repair fiberglass and we have few nicks here and there.

All in all a good day...and a great sunset :)

we had the problem with the leak on the floor by the slide and the wall....John tried to fix it for a year...finally saw water run along a decorative strip then trickle and drip down to run inside the slide and onto the floor...Maybe this could be your problem....spray the slide with a little water and see if some runs along any decorative accent on the slide...hope you find it.

Cher

oh, to fix it, we put silicone along the end of the accent and created a little trough for the water to run or drip down the outside to the ground.
