Simple Abundance

This is Harry, the Harrelson Apple tree that is simply overloaded this year. Harry bears fruit every other year and he's outdone himself this time.

Every branch is jam packed. Let's see. What apple recipes do I have?

There are four fruit trees in the backyard--cherry, peach and two apple. Last year the peach tree gave its all. It is so spread out that it blocks the patio steps. This year the peaches dropped off early, hard as rocks. The birds usually get the cherries. The apples take turns so there's always an apple crop.

In past years Mom and Harry have made apple sauce and canned peaches along with growing a small garden. But that's getting to be too much for them to handle. This year we're going to need a shovel to clean up the windfalls and then figure out what to do with the rest.

Apples anyone?
