Angels at Play
Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work we go!....
Can you imagine making millions of dollars going off to work to do the thing you love...play ball?!
We went to Diablo Stadium early to watch the team practice and get a few pictures. I got closeup and personal as you can see and enjoyed watching the players chat with kids and sign autographs. Here's John Lackey and Mike Napoli headed out to practice.
Usually the "big name" guys don't go out to the practice field but in this case ALL the pitchers walked by us and several stopped for autograhs. Santana was especially friendly.
So many new faces that I don't have names to go with ...yet!
Many of the old faces from the 2002 winning team have moved on or retired but we did get to see Big Daddy Vlady, Garret Anderson, Chone Figgins, and Frankie Rodrigues play. New outfielder Tommy Murphy and Reggie Willits did a great job! What an arm Willits has! And Jose Molina got on base several times and even stole a base (although I think that was because of an overthrow).
The opening ceremonies included the presentation of colors and a flyover by two F-16's from Luke AFB. Pretty big time for a little spring training park! We had the best weather day of the week and enjoyed the company of fellow RVers, Jim and Dorthey who drove up from Yuma.
Jim and Dorthey are from Alaska so we brought along a map and asked them for advice on where to go and what to do. Hopefully, we'll make that trip this summer :)
We topped off the evening with an Olive Garden dinner. I had the new Crab Alfredo Venezia (eat your heart out, Renee) and several glasses of Peach Tea. After a hot afternoon in the sun I was really thirsty. I hope next Tuesday is as beautiful as this day turned out to be. We'll be seeing the White Sox and Angels. Oh ....the Angels won 8-3 and are tied for first place in the Cactus League.
