Party On
I had to take a nap today after two days of birthday celebrations....and it was a warm, lazy afternoon besides. Saturday was my umpteenth birthday and I suggested we visit the Temecula wine country for lunch. I wasn't in the mood to pay $5 for each tasting (whatever happened to the free tasting to promote the wine?). But I was in the mood for a tasty lunch and the wonderful ambience at Carol's Restaurant at Bailey Winery.
We sat outside, next to the vineyard and enjoyed a bottle of Reisling, superb salads and creme brullee and chocolate bundt cake for dessert. My salad was a salmon steak crusted in pecans, served on a bed of spring greens with dried cranberries, almonds and a rose vinegrette dressing. We had a two hour lunch :).
Sunday was family birthday/superbowl party day. Mary and I are Aquarians so we often celebrate together. Son Jim put together an awesome food spread so we were grazing all afternoon while we watched the Bears go down to defeat. We had chips/dips, fruit and veggie trays with dips, cheese fondue, chocolate fondue, sauteed beef strips and scallops. Two birthday cakes topped off the day.
Baby Evan discovered he could reach the snacks so we had to push everything back and keep an eye on him.
So it was a perfect weekend...good food, good wine, good weather, great family. What more could I ask for?:)
