Living Like Laura

Back in the old "work-world" days we lived pretty much on a schedule. You know...sleep, eat, work, drive, then start over again. Once we spent a long weekend with our daughter Laura and she introduced us to the concept of "doing what you want, when you want to." The real eye-opener was watching a movie on a Sunday morning. Whoa! That seemed like a real guilty pleasure. And baking cinnamon buns at 10 PM because we were hungry and that sounded good.

Somehow I never really got the hang of "living like Laura" even in retirement. I think I'm still too traditional, conservative, whatever. So yesterday, on a cold, rainy, Friday afternoon, I watched a movie and still felt that guilty pleasure. Aren't you just supposed to watch movies in the evening after all your work is done? It takes a looooong time to break some of the habits of the working life. Like TGIF. I still get a "time to kick back" feeling about 4 PM on Fridays. Geez! I can kick back anytime.

I just received a box of movies from Amazon (gift certificates- thank you Jim) so maybe I'll watch one at breakfast and enjoy "living like Laura."
