A Day With the Animals
We spent a whole lovely day at Lion Country Safari, our neighbor, in Loxahatchee, FL. We arrived when they opened at 9am and drove through the park for about 3 hours. One of the elephants, Balwagi, was having a 24th birthday party and we arrived in the elephant area just in time to see the herd of 4, each with a birthday cake (of hay, veggies, and fruits) pig out on their feast.
Our timing was good because the animals are pretty active in the morning. The rhinos were adamantly claiming the road and we got stalled there, hoping we wouldn't get bumped. The ostriches were pretty tame and people were actually opening windows to feed them...not a good idea as they are very strong, taller than our car.
I took over a hundred pictures and movies (which I whittled down a lot) but the most fun ones to me are below. We ate lunch, bought bargain t-shirts and visited with the parrots and alligators then decided to go through the park again.
This time the zebras were all over the place and the giraffes couldn't make up their minds which side of the road to be on. The guy below was the giant of the group. He must be 18' tall. He looked into a few car windows then decided to take over the road and just started ambling along. We were really glad that he moved over as he came by us. As he passed our car his underbelly was at the same height as our car roof. Got a great shot of giraffe balls...x rated!
