Treasure Your Health
Recently our days have been filled with doctoring of one kind or another...thankfully not on the motorhome! Of course, our extended stay here in Gurnee, IL has been to assist Mom and Harry while Harry had knee surgery. TREASURE YOUR KNEES! After the fact, the physical therapist tells Harry that knee surgery is probably the most painful of all surgeries to have. If they told you about all the pain and therapy you have to go through to get back on your feet and into your car...you'd never have the surgery.
But after 5 weeks things are coming along well. Harry has graduated to a cane and is walking about the house and yard pretty comfortably. Next step is driving and then he'll be back in business.
Jim had an eye check-up here with Dr. Flood, a retinal specialist. He had a cold laser treatment to stop the leakage of fluid into the macular area and it seems to have worked. This condition requires check-ups every 6 months so we're developing a network of specialists across the country.
I have a thyroid cyst that needed checking out and am thankfully relieved and happy to report that it is benign. This will require another biopsy in 6 months so we'll have to locate a specialist for that, where ever we are. It's so nice to wake up in the morning and not have the underlying worry of what is happening in my neck!
Lastly we have a doggie health problem. A couple of weeks ago Adrienne woke up with a problem eye. It was closed and seemed to be painful. At first we thought she had damaged it by charging into the shrubs after animals, so the vet treated it for infection. After no improvement, a further check shows glaucoma. Now here eye is open but the eyeball is slightly swollen and is very milky looking. She cannot see out of her right eye. She's being treated with a medication that reduces the swelling and drains the eye...but this will not be effective forever. There is no cure, only medication treatment forever or surgery to remove the eye. And undoubtedly her other eye will be affected within the year. So far she's getting around fine, but her feisty personality has changed and she just wants to be an inside dog.
Hopefully, no other problems will arise and we'll be on our way to the southeast in a couple of weeks.
