Changes and Feelings

Yesterday we left the Grand Canyon North Rim and drove 130 miles to a totally different environment in St. George, Utah. In that short distance we went from 8100 feet elevation to around 2200 feet. The change in air pressure does all sorts of things to the body, the Select Comfort air mattress, the spray bottles and the air temperature....75 degrees to 107!

We left lovely Ponderosa pine country and are now in red rock cliffs with the earth in a variety of upthrust angles. St. George is about 40 minutes from Zion and Bryce National Parks, which are stunningly beautiful.

The road into St. George is one that I was thankful I was not driving. After miles of flat, desert like land the road suddenly goes through some rocky passes and starts down at an 8% grade. Then after going around a few curves (whoa-whoas) the towns and mountains beyond are below and in front. Pictures don't do moments like that justice and besides I'm too panicked to take a picture!

Every now and then there is a downward curve that takes my breath away...yesterday was one of those.
